Mission:

To ensure an easy-to-remember telephone number that will connect all Wisconsin residents with information about how to give. To build Wisconsin’s capacity to strengthen the way people access help & engage in civic life.

Should be statewide by around the end of April. (They’re waiting for PSC action authorizing phone companies to implement it statewide.)

Advocacy (for individual to receive help from an organization)

Additional Comments:

211 is a national initiative. 4 years ago, 23 states had it, or about 25% of the population. By the end of 2004, 35-40% of the country will have it (including all of WI). It took 30 years to implement 911, & 2 counties in WI still don’t have it.

211 is accessible through TDD/TTY & has 140 languages available through language line services.
