  • Peer Support

  • Individual & Systems Advocacy (persons with disabilities are taught to advocate for themselves)

  • Assistance (limited)

  • Independent Living Skills Training

Additional Comments:

The ILCs want to change things so consumers don't need them, which is a different philosophy from many groups. ILCs have problems with inappropriate referrals, because it's time consuming to explain ILC services on an I&R call.  This sets up false hopes for callers.  ILCs are trying to explain their services better to other organizations, to limit inappropriate referrals.  They tend to see the failures in the system. Agencies don't talk enough with each other.
